Reclaiming infinitely a fortress
« on: June 08, 2012, 07:34:19 am »

Hello.

Well, my last fortress had died, due to the many dwarfes and their problems, you know. But it was a very beautiful and big fortress, and I don't want to resign it. I'll reclaim it.

So, I was thinking about how many times can I reclaim a fortress, or how many times would I be able to reclaim it. Can I reclaim a fortress to infinity and beyond?

I think nobody has hit the cap of numbers of reclaims, if one even exists. You shouldn't worry too much but if you want to be sure just make a copy of the world folder and put it somewhere safe before doing the first reclaim.

You know, they could teach maths like this at school. "There are 105 dwarves in a settlement. A goblin invasion appears and 67 die. Then a migrant wave..."

Eventually, you will end up with such huge amounts of clutter that the fortress will be so laggy that it's not worth reclaiming.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

OK, I've reclaimed my fortress, and everything was spread on everywhere, there were many tamed animals dead (dogs, cats, yaks...) and rotten food. I've also noted that many stones have disappeared. Ah, and I've found a water buffalo cow alive inside my fortress.

But I can survive there, I just need to make crafts and a caravan to trade. And I hope not to reclaim my fortress again. Or maybe yes...

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

It might be a wild one.

Am I incorrect in my recollection that items in a wagon stay in the wagon when reclaimed, if you abandon as soon as you arrive?  It was a series of hectic reclaimation attempts, so I could be misremembering.

There is only one cat, and all cats are that cat.

You were correct as recently as .07.  Items in the previous wagons would be there but forbidden.

I thought 'complained about the draft lately' meant they didn't have a door to their room.
