In the city of Gaze Mushroom the streets and shops are abandoned. not a soul in sight. My adventurer passed it off as the work of the several vampires he caught living in the keep. until he climbed a watch tower to try for soldiers and...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The citizens of Gaze Mushroom have devised an ingenious method to survive the vampire onslaught: squeaky stairs! It's brilliant! When sleeping the citizens will be awoken by the footsteps of the vampires, rather than have their blood stealthily siphoned silently as they sleep soundly.

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

I'm not your average Bay12er. I care about my drunken midgets.

Quote from: Malarauko
I had an above ground garden built in the grounds of my castle and two young dwarves spent time socialising there over the summer and at the end of the summer they were in love. Remember those long summers of your childhood? That first kiss in the gardens while crossbows dwarves shoot goblins above your head? The rain of dead birds as the hunters get to work? Truly Spearhills is a paradise.

I think it is a bug that is caused by buildings being left vacant after its previous residents die.  Apparently most house/shop buildings do no get repopulated ever.  It is almost like they become haunted houses that no dwarf wants to live in. . . ever.
