Concerning Wheelbarrows and Minecarts
« on: June 06, 2012, 10:57:54 am »

After taking a long break from DF (from around .31) i noticed that Toady has added minecarts and wheelbarrows.

How do I select and assign a wheelbarrow to a stockpile?
How do I select and assign a minecart to a track, to go to a stockpile?

These are just questions I have though about while im fixing everything how I need it to be in DF, and was hoping for an answer so I know when I get in.

EDIT: Can things also break through walls now? I'm hearing alot of people urging to get 3 wide walls against the undead and etc.

Wheelbarrows get assigned from the stockpile options.  Stone stockpiles get one wheelbarrow by default.  All stockpile can have a maximum of three wheelbarrows each.

Minecarts I know nothing about.   :)

Things cannot yet break through walls.

There is only one cat, and all cats are that cat.

Important things I've noticed:
-If you do not have enough Wheelbarrows dwarves will still life stuff with hands.  This is very very slow for stone so I recommend setting open stone stockpiles to 'Take From Links Only' until the wheelbarrows have arrived.
-'h' is now the Hauling menu.  You can set up routes for the mine-carts, and they are assigned.  They require a little studying and some experimentation.  Also they lead to lots of FUN.  Only use 'Guide carts' until you have more experience unless you like lots of FUN and some frustration.
