I support the idea of metals, minerals (stone, ore, gems) getting descriptions. It would be absolutely vital if Toady adds in randomly generated minerals etc.

I would point out that, barring the ability to open up the raws and look at what the properties are, descriptions are the only fair way for players to be able to understand what properties materials have at all.

You'd have to be able to tell the player somehow that it is a metal that is flexible and light, but holds a sharper edge than steel, for example, and possibly tell them further that it is capable of having an even sharper edge than the other procedurally generated metals you have.

Otherwise, the only way to know these things would be to go into arena testing mode for each material type, and that would likely not be terribly fun.

It would be interesting, even if just to add more flavor text to the game. I actually google image/wikipedia most rocks I' see in the game, just out of curiosity.

If murdering parents in front of their kids in the most gruesome manner possible is too much for you, you have not played Dwarf Fortress
You should be drowning babies by now, human.

I don't like flavor text unless its funny and always updated or related to something that is often updated.  Otherwise it gets in the way and just becomes mundane.  *thumbs down*  *thumbs up* If all stone words were shortened via chemical nomenclature, or an option to shorten it were included.  This might be font spacing nightmare however.  The horrors of writing lab reports ensue.

Too much reality takes me out of fantasy, for that I must shoot down the stone desc.  For that, also, if it wasn't funny and always updated, I'd have to turn it off, to maintain proper catharsis, and settings that are off, just waste a developers efforts.  I have been known to be wrong with my thumbs, however.  I was strongly against tracking/following individual dwarfs, F key.  But now that I used it, I don't want to ever go back to not.

Honestly, i'm in favor of more description. If done right, this could really bring things like statues and artifacts to life.

I would also suggest we put this on eternal suggestion voting, if it isn't already there (i can't check EVERY one of several hundred posts on there x.X)
