In A City [Suggestion Game]
« on: June 23, 2012, 08:23:50 am »

A buzz of magic surrounds you. Your head throbs in pain.
You begin to realize you're lying on the ground and you feel much lighter than usually.
You attempt to recollect what happened before...

...

Oh, yes. You were fighting an evil wizard who had a plot to destroy the world.
You groan in pain, thinking is hard, right now.
He was... he was casting spells at you as you and your companions were fighting him and his minions.
You approached the wizard, but then something happened.
You vaguely remember the words "You're going to a better place, now."

Your vision is fuzzy and your head hurts. You can't hear sounds of battle or the casting of spells. Just... people?

What now?

Look around you, and try to figure out where you are.

You focus your vision as your head continues to throb.
Once it comes to you, you look around and realize you're in an alley.
You sit up slowly, your body aching. At one end of the alley, you see a wall and at the other, you see several people standing there, talking to each other.
They don't seem to notice you.

Look around, and search your self, there has to be something around here that can tell you something useful.

Checking your belongings, you appear to be wearing some leather armor, a torn cloak, and a scabbard with some sort of sword in it. Your pockets hold at least 5 gold coins and an empty vial.
Judging from your equipment, you must be a... fighter? You don't have a spellbook or any sort of thief tools.
You scan the alley. There's junk here, including a couple of bottles, scraps of rotten food and bone, and a rusted knife. You also see a hat here. Must be yours?
Your head throbs again.

Take the bottles, knife, and the hat then hastily leave the alley like a respectable person. Our first goal should be to find some lodgings so we can rest and think of a plan.

You stand up, swiftly. A little too fast, evidently, and it takes a moment to regain your composure.
You proceed pick up the bottles and stow them in your pockets and put the knife on your belt. You also grab and wear the hat.
After another moment trying to hopefully not look like a mess, you step out of the alley, politely asking the people to move.
You look up as you enter the street, you can see towers in the distance, along with the tops of large castles. You clutch your head for a moment, hoping the pain will subside.
Looking around, the street isn't too busy. There are a lot of houses here and a few other buildings. A tower, a small villa, a couple of shops, and a tavern.
Maybe the tavern will have a room?

((Apologies for the double post))

You take initiative and move into the tavern. It's a little empty in here... an absolutely beautiful woman with... bat wings... is playing a harp on stage.
The music is soothing your head.
The bar keeper notices you and gestures for you to come over. You comply and take a seat at the bar.
"You new, here?" the barkeeper says. He's speaking in the language of the devils...
Being rusty at your devil-speak, you nod silently.
"Ah. Do you need anything? I might be able to ask whatever questions you have."

"Is their a place we can a job nearby, a guild perhaps?"
"How much for a room for the night, and a meal?"

You ask him about where we are.
The barkeeper nods. "You are new here."
"Well, right now, we're in a slum..." He looks behind you, for a moment.
If you mean, what city is this, people just call this place 'the city.' We're in what's called the 'District of Life.'"
You ask him about jobs.
He points at a wooden board next to the door. "There's a notice board there. People occasionally post jobs there.
The one here isn't too popular for jobs, but you might be able to find something. As for guilds, there's a lot around here.
I only know of the major ones that control the district. You'll have to ask around for any minor ones, though I know the name
of some, in case you need to know." He gestures at a barmaid to serve a customer.
"The major ones are the Holy Protectorate, the Free Collective, the Gatherers, the Catchers of Dawn, the Naan Dynasty, the Nh'irkhal Union, and the Empire. This slum isn't under control of any of the major guilds yet.
Minor ones, I've heard about are the Slum Thugs, Sewer Rats, and the Ballad."
You thank him for the information and ask him about food and a place to rest.
"Well, we've got food here and I've got a bunch of beds downstairs..." he points at the stairs behind him.
"Because your new, I'll give you a meal and a room for the night on the house. I doubt you have any of the common currency on you."
He asks a barmaid to get you something to eat and then proceeds to pour some beer into a mug from one of the small kegs on the bar.
The barmaid comes back rather quickly, carrying a plate of bread and sausage, which she places in front of you.
He hands you the drink.
"Welcome to the city."

You thank the barkeeper and he nods in response, then goes to handle another customer at the bar.
You stand up and check the notice board. There appear to be 3 non-news postings.
One is looking for a man accused of "murder of several archmages and rape." It's a wanted poster with a crude drawing on it that looks vaguely humanoid.
Another is looking for someone to escort him into the sewers to find an unspecified item.
The last is wanting help in finding a thief.
You take mental note of these three posting and return to eat. While you're eating, you ask the barkeeper about wenches.
"My girls don't act as whores, but there's a brothel down the street if you really need to."
