You ask him about where we are.
The barkeeper nods. "You are new here."
"Well, right now, we're in a slum..." He looks behind you, for a moment.
If you mean, what city is this, people just call this place 'the city.' We're in what's called the 'District of Life.'"
You ask him about jobs.
He points at a wooden board next to the door. "There's a notice board there. People occasionally post jobs there.
The one here isn't too popular for jobs, but you might be able to find something. As for guilds, there's a lot around here.
I only know of the major ones that control the district. You'll have to ask around for any minor ones, though I know the name
of some, in case you need to know." He gestures at a barmaid to serve a customer.
"The major ones are the Holy Protectorate, the Free Collective, the Gatherers, the Catchers of Dawn, the Naan Dynasty, the Nh'irkhal Union, and the Empire. This slum isn't under control of any of the major guilds yet.
Minor ones, I've heard about are the Slum Thugs, Sewer Rats, and the Ballad."
You thank him for the information and ask him about food and a place to rest.
"Well, we've got food here and I've got a bunch of beds downstairs..." he points at the stairs behind him.
"Because your new, I'll give you a meal and a room for the night on the house. I doubt you have any of the common currency on you."
He asks a barmaid to get you something to eat and then proceeds to pour some beer into a mug from one of the small kegs on the bar.
The barmaid comes back rather quickly, carrying a plate of bread and sausage, which she places in front of you.
He hands you the drink.
"Welcome to the city."
