Regarding abandoning forts and visiting in adv mode
« on: May 26, 2012, 10:53:37 am »

I have a fortress designed to be explored by an adventurer. One critical aspect of it is there is an important dwarf behind a locked door. I know if you abandon and visit later, your dwarfs are all still there, alive, you can talk to them and whatnot. But do they stay put? If I abandon then visit with the adventurer, will the important dwarf still be behind the locked door? Or will he randomly turn up somewhere else?

Since when does Abandon not mean the dwarves abandon the fortress?

I think you are talking about an option in dfhack or similar program. It has a thread in the modding forum, you could try asking there, or create a thread there, most here won't know what you mean. For example, I only know 'lair' stops item scatter

You don't need a hack for that. If you abandon a fortress then visit it as an adventurer, the dwarves who were still alive on abandon will still be there, standing around, and you can talk to them. At least that's my personal experience, and I never use mods. I guess I'll ask in the adventurer forum?

Probably, making forts for adventurerers to visit is not a common hobby :p

I think I remember that the inhabitants will move away slowly, so they're not there indefinately. Since items are scattered and tame creatures disappeared, dwarfs are unlikely to stay in the same place too. Unless this is in the new release and I just havn't tried it yet.

Well I will use dfhack to set it as a lair so items will stay put. I guess i'll have to test this one myself.
