Markdwarves not using metal bolts.
« on: May 26, 2012, 04:48:47 pm »

I've pretty much mastered the markdwarf training at this point in my dwarf fortress career, but I can't figure out whats going on here.

I trained up a new group of migrants all the way to nearly Elite skill level with 10 archery ranges. I had 3 workshops pumping out wooden bolts and they would use them up very quickly. They are using them faster than I can make them because my wood supply is limited.

So I reclaimed all of the bolts on the map from the defeated ambushes and ended up with around 446 iron bolts and 333 silver bolts in my ammunition stockpile. Some of them have stack sizes larger than 25, but some are smaller, but the mark dwarveswon't touch any of them.

they are set to use 600 bolts assigned to their squad, no other squad or the hunting group has any bolts assigned. the material preference is for any material. I never specified wood only or something. I'm concerned that once their training is complete, they won't even use these metal bolts for combat, unless something has changed in the new 34.10 version.

They mark dwarves will stand around in the barracks with empty quivers. As soon as a wooden bolt is created at the workshops, one dwarf will run off, pick it up and fire them all at an archery target to gain EXP. but they won't touch the metal bolts.

I haven't expicitedly tried to tell them to use metal only bolts yet, but they should be using them right now regardless.

EDIT

They were all in bins, so I dumped them out of the bins and reclaimed them. The mark dwarves still prefered to use the wooden bolts first, but eventually used the metal ones when the wood bolts ran out. It must have been a bin problem.
