When I was going to try the body swap bug in this version (unsure if it works) I had a massive lag spike. After some time of sitting there waiting, the game was back and I noticed there was a very large wall of ice just behind me. It is solid and is more than one Z level tall, it seems. I found that if I build a campfire right next to the wall, it melts a 3x3 area around the campfire (including the wall), and the ice wall quickly regrows and covers new ground. I was able to create a small open-topped cave by doing this. If I happen to be standing where the ice will form (Not necessarily even standing on the water) I get encased in ice, sometimes the second I make the campfire.
I'm confused as to how the wall of ice actually GROWS outwards. I slept, and it was interrupted by a blue shark. The announcement says "Blue shark!" as if it ambushed me. All of the walls of ice are gone, and the blue shark is sitting on the snow by to me, drowning. Where the ice was, there are quite a number of dead albatross.
"The Blue Shark has drowned."
Thanking myself for making a backup, I reloaded the save. I stand one space to the left of wall, and build a campfire to the NE, and immediately sleep for one hour; the game thinks for several minutes. Upon being able to control my character again, I find I am in a large pit filled surrounding by ice from all directions. Corpses of albatross can also be seen encased a short ways away from me. All of this is recorded.
Is this a known phenomenon?
Me in the ice cave. You can somewhat see the box-like shape of the formation. (any protrusions are from me messing with campfires.)
