Thoughts on my 3D game project
« on: May 23, 2012, 11:52:49 am »

Hello Bay 12 Community!

Firstly, I must point out I'm not here to diminish Bay 12 Games, Toady, or Dwarf Fortress in any way.  I have had some fun times with games like Dwarf Fortress, but I feel there is a lot of room for games that take a different approach.

I've began work on a fully 3d gaming project that is starting with a foundation of some core concepts from Dwarf Fortress as an inspiration, but aiming for a different experience that is more traditional and mainstream.  I wanted to open up a discussion about what a general reaction to this might be amongst the DF community, so I might better gauge how I will tackle my goal.

I have a few quick questions that would really help me to hear some responses to.

1) Would you be likely to support a project such as this, if it seems to have merit equal to or exceeding DF in terms of graphics and gameplay?
-That means either pledging financial support for the development (with gifts in return, of course) or by purchasing the game when finished.

2) How much would you be willing to spend supporting this kind of project during development?  5$, 25$, 100$ more?

3) What kinds of gifts would best entice you to pledge financial support for the development?

4) Sight unseen, roughly how much would you be willing to spend for a copy once the game is finished?

5) Are there any features that you would love to see in a project like this?

6) Would anyone out there be willing and able to assist with the project?
-I can add details as they come up, but the only thing I know for sure right now is I'm set on using the Unreal engine and the UDK, as it's well featured and relatively easy to use.

7) Any other general comments or questions you'd like to express?

Most of those questions are unanswerable as I do not know any of your prior projects, your capabilities, nor what the game actually entails in any definite shape or form.

Also, Im afraid there already is a mainstream game similar to DF which is in development. A Game of Dwarves

As cerapa said, you are being very vague, so we cant answer your questions.
We need to know what kind of game it is, have some basic footage, we dont know you, either...

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Nice spambot, can read the contents of a thread and the name of the OP. Far more impressive than some others.
