Alchemist [DOWNLOAD NOW AVAILABLE!]
« on: May 27, 2012, 12:09:20 pm »

Alchemist
Alchemist is a competitive player versus player game inspired by the Puyo Puyo.
The game is themed around mixing the four colored elements together to form chain reactions to wreak havoc on your opponents.
With strategic thinking and careful planning, players can group four or more of the same element together to rack up combos and flood their enemy's side of the arena.

The game is being hosted 24/7 on a shell server and there's always someone to play against.  The game features a persistent leaderboard which uses an ELO ranking system.
New players start with 500 Ranking points, and gain and lose points based on who they defeat or are defeated by.

Sorry to derail this a bit but does anyone know any games similar to this one?

And by similar I mean a particular game where you build contraptions in a tetris like manner and send them to block up the enemies field, pretty much like this game but the way you go about filling the other side is different.

I think it's more like Puyo Puyo Fever.

There's a lot of spinoff games of the Puyo franchise, Kirby's Avalanche comes to mind as a childhood favorite.

There are a couple puzzle types in Puzzle Pirates that are PvP and a lot like this style of gameplay.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

This actually looks interesting. Battle tetris.

A few games that use similar if not exact mechanics are Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Puyo Puyo/Puyo Pop, and Kirby's Avalanche to name a few.
I'm sure there are more, but I've only played those three.

Glad some people think it's interesting! (:

Aw man, I grew up with Poyo Poyo variants. Glad to see someone making one that's online multiplayer. This might even justify downloading BYOND.

I was actually really surprised at how smooth BYOND handled this many little pieces, it works really well!
If you don't really want to download BYOND, there'll be a version for non-BYOND users.  Of course you won't get a shnazzy username, you'd be a Guest, but you can still play and get access to pretty much all the features anyways! (:

Sorry for the double post, but there is now a non-BYOND member download if anyone is interested in trying out the game but doesn't want to re-install BYOND.
You get access to all game-play related features, including online play!  Come join us! (:

Super Puzzle Fighter does this sorta thing to.

Gonna give this a download in a bit and see if it scratches the old puzzle fighter itch. :P
