Kind of interesting to glance back at it and see how his vision of vampire infection spreading has changed since then.

“The processing power that Dwarf Fortress uses is on the same scale as modern engineering software for designing aerospace hardware,” says Ames, the engineer. “You have more complicated simulations in Dwarf Fortress than when you model the aerodynamics of a wing.”

I. LOVE. THIS. GAME.

I would contest this.

On a single core, maybe.  But my aerospace cad package is 64bit and multicore aware.

I have been conned into using it for haptic and ergonomic plant layout simulations, and I can bring my 8 core engineering workstation to its knees with 16gb of ram allocated by loading my plant layout test packages.  (We use them to check productivity flow, and to digitally toy with moving big cnc machines around digitally. I joke and say that I play barbie's dream house for my employers.)

DF, in comparison, gobbles about 3gb of ram tops, and maxes only a single core.

1000 dwarves.  Do it please. Then post it for our amusement.  Okay, 500. But that is as low as it goes!
