I think someone mentioned they don't pass through doors, though if they are opened for them it might be different

Long hallway, pressure plate at one end and powered roller at the other.  Activate the plate and the roller gains power, sending the cart accelerating down the hallway.  8)

have you actually done that or are you just speculating?
Pure, unadulterated, but enthusiastic, speculation.  I've not had time to do more than embark in my 34.08 world.

Technically, couldn't you dump a little magma into that tile?  (Make the door magma-proof to keep it repeatable...) The door will still keep the magma out, and when the door it opened, the magma falls down.

If just just use a pump to refill the tile above the door, you would always have a 7/7 above that door, and maybe have some grates on either end of the door to recover spilled magma.

Kobolds do not trigger pressure plates.

They do when knocked unconscious by falling anvils.  :P

The trap was based on a magma-using design from previous versions, but the old design didn't take off because of reset time and accidental dwarf burnination: doors that kobolds enter are USED BY INTRUDER and have to be reset - by a dwarf walking through them. If you have to clear junk that is jamming the door open in order to reset, then you can reforbid the door at the same time. Dwarves who are working near the trap after it has been triggered aren't at risk of accidental injury.
