Early Greek philosphers lived mostly in it's colonies rather then on the main island.

Its not really relevant where they lived thoug,h we aren't greeks! Atalea might be in simialr location and of similar cultural appearance, but we aren't a carbon copy of their civilization.

Exactly, we will have more mad sci- erm, that would be difficult I suppose, what with the whole of Sparta basically being a social experiment, Athens being a political experiment, scattered reports of everything from steam engines to super-computers to death-rays. Not to mention the mathematical cultists... Maybe we could be nomadic, that would be different...
