No this game is not about being sentient burger and its incredibly unlikely adventures. A burgher is not a sandwich that wants to feel special, but a member of the middle class living in a city...Bourgeoisie in other words. But enough semantics. You're playing a member of the *enlightened* middle class of the cities of analogue-Europe.
Now, about the world we're playing in. It ain't Earth but it ain't no Eberron. Its fantasy but not too fantastic. There are dragons and some orcs are up in the hills and there might be other races about...Magic as we know it split into two broad types: natural and artificial. Natural magic is just magic that happens in the world without any act by a spellcaster or ritual. Its just there and no one really pays much attention to it besides some of those intellectual types. Artificial magic is simply the imitation of natural magic by man and beast. Its rather...difficult to do and often not worth the effort. Note that most people don't differentiate between magic and technology, they're just a kind of advancement of knowledge. And before I forget, the area we start in is around 13th century technology, just before gunpowder in Europe if I remember.
