Deciphering Dwarf Names
« on: May 10, 2012, 07:17:11 pm »

This fella has four names and one of them is tremendously long.   Is there some dwarf dictionary where we can decipher names like the one below or does the game just jumble letters together when creating names?

I see no name in the image. Did you get the right one?

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

The dwarf language files can be found in /data/raw/objects/language_DWARF.txt

IIRC it should give you a translation when you go into their description or maybe status.  Could be wrong though.

Well, we could put two and two together and write a book: "The Shit that Hans and Max Did: You Won't Believe This Shit."

"construct veilfountain the velvet urn-mother of tin"

it's actually kind of a pretty, feminine sort of name

You can get all but the first name by looking up the dwarf's profile. But the first name never gets translated and you have to work it out from the language files or finding another dwarf who has that as part of their surnames.

For looking up first names I find that language_DWARF.txt + find command works rather well.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!
