Quote
So I embarked on a sinister biome for !!FUN!! weather

Suddenly after I got a small secured for all walled in a sealed up a "Cloud of Evil Gloom" came by and hit a bunch of ravens

They got called Evil Gloom Raven Zombies
But instead of a zombie tag, They got a "Opposed to all life" tag
Why not a "Zombie" tag?

That's typical of a Thrall cloud. Thralls are just terrifying. They've been nerfed (they used to be unstoppable), but they are still quite deadly.

I guess the HFS is back on the top of the metaphorical ladder spire. It seems fitting that the carp would be the thing to kill husks.

Terminology:

"Animated corpse" or "X Corpse" (where X is the creature): necromancer or region-animated dead things.

"[cursed/wicked/evil/creeping/haunting/abominable/devilish/fiendish/heinous/nefarious/profane/vile/accursed/blighted/execrable/infernal/unholy/eerie] [dust/soot/fog/gloom/murk/smoke/vapor] [husk/zombie/thrall]": something that did't die, but was corrupted by evil weather. Comes with a cool random name, but is otherwise alike.

Many people on the forums refer to the animated corpses as "zombies", which can be confusing when compared to the many possible names of "husks".

Both zombies and husks are OPPOSED_TO_LIFE. The former are, technically, undead.

In that case, what tag differences make the husks immune to death by anything but bisection/decapitation while the zombies can collapse? (or is husk behavior hardcoded?)

As far as I can tell from looking at RAW files extracted from "world.sav" in my save game folder (saved uncompressed), they have the same tags added and removed.

To the best of my knowledge, the [I_EFFECT:ANIMATE] part of the interaction that creates animated corpses from corpse "items" makes them collapse after a few hits. Otherwise, they would be as durable as husks. They also don't have the original soul of the creature, and no skills.

What makes husks scary is that they keep their skills (technically the "soul") and equipment, and can learn.

Because of the soul thing, if a dwarf dies in fort mode and is animated, he can also come back as a ghost, whereas husk dwarves won't appear as ghosts until the husk is destroyed.
