I don't train my military often, usually my forts don't last long, but it can't possibly be because of that. While wrestler do less damage (I only have one out of 10 right now) I do notice they are useful at sort of disabling an opponent, so rather than doing damage they disable. While some people dislike chat logs with lots of strangulation, looks of surprise, and collisions, I do.

Whats the worst that could happen, them lose a limb? Nah ... though on that note an axedwarf wielding a great axe, if he loses his arm can he still wield it? Or will he resort to biting? I guess biting is a good backup, I think it bypasses armor if it connects to throat.

I did try to subtly hint myself by changing my own post's subject title, when I had cause to reply anyway.  Perhaps it was too subtle, though.

Unarmed combat is a necessary precaution I take in all of my forts until I get weapons from the first ambushes. Unless I find metal somehow. The trade caravans have been helpful on these endeavours.
