Dwarf Fortress vs OpenTTD.

There. I said it. Now the forum can rip itself apart as I watch from my bunker laughing manically!

But it should be easy enough not to use them in a way you feel is dumb while letting other people have their hilarity.

Sim City: Llamas and Splines

Dwarf Fortress: Death and Murder

So... I guess DF wins.  I play both and I deffinitely spend more time on DF.  That doesn't necessarilly mean I like it more tho, it's just harder to get anything done.  I can make a fairly successful city in SC4 in about an hour.  After an Hour of DF, I've generated a world and almost picked my starting 7 embarkees.

I like fortresses because they are still underground.

DF is better overall, but Simcity3000 is still one of the best modern city simulators ever.

OpenTTD vs Dwarf fortress? Both are Brilliant and great games but neither is better than the other as they are fundamentally different.

We just need to get Toady to embed a Lisp interpreter into DF.  Learning lambda calculus in order to play the game wouldn't make DF's learning curve much steeper.

I honestly couldn't choose.
Both have unique flavor.

Problem with SimCity is once it gets old, it gets old.
Once DF gets old, there will be a new feature if you have the patience.

That was overdue :)

I've played most sim cities and all civilizations. Compared to Df they're restrictive in what you can do and what you can expect. They're simple, I guess you can say. Too simple. Boringly simple.

From a developers perspective, the difference in amount of time devoted to the games is vast and noticeable. Toady One pays attention to detail and works until his task is complete, others spend
Enough time to make the game sellable and not any more.

Overseer vs mayor, hrmmm...
