*faceplant*

Everything I said is done in that order. By the time you link the door to the lever, the miner is long drunk and on the other (drier) side of the door

...Or instead of trying to use 'timing' and 'luck' you could just channel the tile above ._.

STOP MAKING IT COMPLICATED FOR HIM.
It's not a timing exercise. You leave the door unlinked. The miner leaves the tunnel through the ordinary, mundane door. The door stops the water. THEN you link the door to a lever, while the tunnel is already dull of water and has nobody in it.

Dig from one level above since it's a river.

Whatever.

If you decide to use a linked door you can skip the floodgate.

That's what DF needs, The gutbuster brigade.  Screw that elf and his cat. Thibbledorf Pwent is the real hero.

STOP MAKING IT COMPLICATED FOR HIM.

The floodgate makes it more complicated ::)

Step 1: Dig tunnel (without breaching river
Step 2: Place door (unlinked)
Step 3: Breach river
Step 4: Link door to lever
Step 5: Pull to unleash drowning glory

Dwarf breaches river, water floods in, miner runs out, door closes behind him and a mechanic calmly links the door to a lever to complete the task.

Seemed pretty clear to me. No timing or reconstruction required, unlike the floodgate.

I kept on thinking that water would be on the other side of the door for some RETARDED REASON...
Therefore keeping the door submerged and .. yeah. lol

Did you channel the area and THEN put grates? :333

flooding something is usually easy. getting it dry again and preventing your whole fort from flooding are the hard part.
