Upon hearing about the Shadowrun Returns kickstarter about a week ago (and with my group soon to start up a Shadowrun pnp game) I looked back with nostalgia eyes at the snes and sega Shadowrun games.

I decided to start up the sega version and make a decker. Now I have started many characters on this game and only ever won it by cheating once. Over the years I've figured out many of the nuances that make the game great and could avoid all the old mistakes I'd make.

My plan this time would be: get Freya on permanently, get Ilene on permanently, rack up karma till all attributes were maxed and main ability was at 9-10, hit bigger runs upgrading equipment until maxed on that, save up enough money to get best deck and start putting some upgrades into that, high level matrix runs, maybe finish the game, without cheating this time.

I ran into a problem after step 2 though... why is Ilene dieing in a single hit? This confounds me, she has 6 body (upgraded from 5) yet a ghoul, gargoyle or even an unarmed halloweener will reduce her to 0% physical/ 0% mental hp in a single hit. neither of my other two characters suffer this despite having the same defensive equipment, posture and relative def stat. It seems to be a glitch and dismissing her and freya, hiring ilene back first has no effect on it.

Despite this, I am really enjoying the old game and look forward to crawling through corporate offices, searching for the room with my objective in it, meanwhile being interupted by random encounters that could turn nasty very quickly. the game always had a tense feel to it. Now that I'm wiser I am better prepared for what the game can throw at me, i don't remember the tall white sasquatch guys and hell hounds being so easy to deal with though...

Anyone have some insight into my Ilene two fists problem or wanna share your experience with the two old Shadowrun games?

Shadowrun on Sega is one of my favorite gaming experiences. It was so immersive and dark for it's time. Few games have ever touched upon that again. Personally I found the SNES version to be lacking, but still fun in some way. Good luck to you, unfortunately it's not fresh enough in my memory to help you with the issue you are having.

Get her Light Combat Armor, then upgrade to Heavy Combat armor as soon as possible. Other then that, perhaps Cyberware is an issue? Not too sure on it.

she did start with no armor so i upgraded her to the best legal armor (forget what it's called, my other two characters have it) thinking that maybe thats the issue but no dice. for cyberware she has muscle replacement (1) and wired reflexes (1), nothing that affects her survability. all I can think of is that a value was messed up somewhere and her health was reduced to 1 - 2 or something.

I'm gonna debug cheat it when i get a chance at home and stick her in combat armor, magical protection and full dermal plating, see what happens.

I only have a few vague memories of it when I rented it from Blockbuster as a kid, but what I do remember is fond... I suppose I should go back and look at it again.
