I captured a bunch of gigantic tortoises, and trained 'em up- I was looking forward to breeding them, but the eggs (which I had forbidden to prevent them being eaten) failed to hatch.

Giant tortoises, from which they inherit tags, have the [child:1] tag- which I though was enough to make their eggs hatch.  What am I missing here?

Actually, all eggs seem to have the same incubation time at the moment - about 3 months.  However, eggs sometimes simply fail to hatch at all.  If the mother has been sitting on her eggs for more than about half a year, try removing the eggs and letting them lay a new batch.

Actually, this was a case of user error:  while I was claiming some weapons and clothing, I accidentally claimed the eggs as well, and they were added to the food stockpile.  Another clutch of eggs hatched successfully, and I'm now the proud owner of a swarm of giant tortoise hatchlings.
