Buff beekeeping
« on: April 09, 2012, 04:00:01 pm »

I would just like beekeeping to be made stronk like husk unt badger and zwei carp in ze pool of dreams.

The mead industry should be opposite to the brew industry, instead of churning out a lot of quick drinks with two components, mead industry should be this time-consuming task that produces a superior product to the brewery.

Some thoughts:
- Make the beekeeping job more time consuming
- Make the pressing of bee stuff at the screw pump a beekeeper job that takes more time
- Make drinking mead give a positive thought differentiated from normal drink thought
- Increase the value of high quality mead
- Make it something a noble can make a demand/mandate fors
- remove hive related bugs
- make hive quality + bees + beekeeper skill +honey production relate somehow

- remove hive related bugs
Is that as condescending as you meant it to be?

Is that the one where the beekeeper decides he wants to stand in the middle of a field where there used to be a wild hive and slowly starve because he can't figure out that it's not there anymore?

Because that's a pain in the neck.

Also, 'remove hive related bugs'... Heh.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

Given the effort it takes to make wax crafts, I think wax should be a more valuable material.

Cause right now there isn't much point.

Right now, no, but when/if light gets added, it should be the best thing for candles. Maybe you could use it to create moustache wax for your dwarves, or should weapons eventually get damaged by being wet, sword wax. I'd rather see more uses for wax than just getting a bump in price.

Somehow, that fills me more with dread than anticipation.  It's like being told that someone's exhuming your favorite grandparent and they're going to try to make her into a cyborg stripper.

I would feel more incentive to mess around with beekeeping if:

dwarves would reliably cook royal jelly
1 jug per jelly/honey.  Even a no-quality rock jug is worth 10 times its contents.  This is silly.
wax more valuable-useful.

This x10.  I've even set up stockpiles of the royal jelly right next to the kitchen but the dwarves ignore it anyway.  It's annoying having to create new jugs to get more honey because there is royal jelly taking up the existing jugs.

I'd prefer if bee keeping produced more honey / mead as well.  Presently you've got to have a pretty huge number of hives to produce any amount of honey worth even looking at.  Perhaps it's realistic though.

This coupled with the couple of outstanding bugs with beekeeping makes it just something I throw a random dwarf onto to have one less dwarf with nothing to do.

This is why I don't bother with syrup either.  probably the same bug/issue.  Still, even if they did cook jelly, there's hardly a reason to since it has a base value of 1, and comes in stacks of 1.  I've got more than enough tallow if i want lavish meals in stacks of 4.
