Preferring Resources
« on: April 09, 2012, 12:49:46 pm »

Simply put, I would like an option to prefer, or 'favorite', resources. This means select a building material or crafting material to be used before or more commonly than others. One example would be building a wall on the surface, where your 8 different types of wood pop up before your very abundant stone, which is surrounded by 7 other stones, much less plentiful. This doesn't seem like much, but it would prevent you from accidentally building with a metal bar or something not so common. Another function would be it be preferred over other stones (Favoring Dolomite over Gabbro in crafts) so you can be more efficient in your crafts. Doesn't seem like much, but it might save us a little time and the pleasure of not having to deconstruct 10 units of Charcoal from our construction.

It amazes me that Dwarves can survive on 2-3 bee brains per season. That's like, two sesame seeds. But it's a Dwarf, so I guess it's like four sesame seeds.

Aaagh, yes, please. I don't want to waste time picking the wood out of my stone walls because I forgot to scroll to wherever the stone was in the list.

Lielac likes adamantine, magnetite, marble, the color olive green, battle axes, cats for their aloofness, dragons for their terrible majesty, women for their beauty, and the Oxford comma for its disambiguating properties. When possible, she prefers to consume pear cider and nectarines. She absolutely detests kobolds.

Allowing us to define specific areas of use for every material would be an even better solution, really. Atm, we can choose to use predefined limits or not, or not use them at all, but it would be much more convenient if we could just go "use microcline only for crafts and pots, but nothing else, while using only marble for furniture" or something similar.

Combine with the notion of familiarity with certain materials (i.e. dwarves working more efficiently and producing objects of greater quality when working with a material they've used often before) for even more neatness.

Definitely!

I spent a huge amount of extra time designing my orbital structure, because of rock choosing.
