Might be worth someone running a comprehensive benchmark of the effect of different RAM timings, particularly CAS (the main latency quoted) and 1T/2T.

Dwarven blood types are not A, B, AB, O but Ale, Wine, Beer, Rum, Whisky and so forth.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

I use a Core i7 9200 (@2.66GHz, but overclocked to 4.0GHz) and 6 Gb RAM. It's more than enough to run DF even with an obsessively overcluttered fort of 200 dwarves. It does tend to "freeze up" and slow down when an excessive amount of processing needs to be done, for instance if you unforbid a door or mass-unborrow dwarves (with alerts for instance). All that simultaneous pathfinding brings anything to its knees. But for day to day playing, I have 0 problems with this setup. The RAM is easily overkill, but I need it for other stuff.

I really need to try DF sometime on my new-ish desktop.

2500k with a 4.9Ghz turbo, 8GB of 2133Mhz RAM.  The Latency on the RAM is not that great, at 11CL or whatever.

A normal Harddive, sadly.  Also a 470GTX.
