How many dwarves did you embark with? Try making everyone that's at least a novice fighter into a soldier, with the most skilled/charismic of them as the commander. I remember someone telling me that some sieges were based on wealth. Luckily you now have a sh*tton of adamantine to make into armor and weapons.

Wealth and population. You need 50 or so before you have to worry, under that wealth will just draw in thieves.

Aren't immigrants based on wealth, though, meaning that he's likely to hit the population requirement soon?

First two, don't think so. After that, yes. With that much adamantine, he'll probably get a wave of 100+ for his third wave

Nah, the default max migration is about 30 or 40.  Which, not coincidentally, is what I tend to get every time I get migrants after the first two waves.  One of the side-effects of having a healthy supply of large, steel serrated discs sitting in the weapon traps, that.

You 100% sure on that? I've had migrant waves over 30 before for sure, I think over 40 as well

Ya, I commonly get 60, the record as far as I've seen is close to 80.

Although, dwarf Therapist did read 2 back-to-back migration waves as the same wave, 143 migrants, so maybe half got delayed :p

DT is actually pretty messed up in counting immigrant waves right now (it has a tendency to combine/split waves up fairly randomly) so I wouldn't necessarily trust any info it gives you on how large the various waves were right now. I mean for me half the time it is simply saying that the entire fortress came as one huge wave. :P
