Caligula: The Movie
« on: April 03, 2012, 08:04:51 pm »

Man, what a great film.

Too bad everything I see reminds me of vaginas and torture now, though.

Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

Apparently, they had 7 pregnant women on set so that they could quickly film the Helen Mirren birthing scene as soon as one of them went into labour.

A woman usually spends several hours in labour before they actually give birth, did they really have to stick around on set for that?

I have actually seen Caligula (at least about the first half of it) with a couple of friends. I thought it was hilarious.

He loses his kooky appeal in the scene where he graphically rapes a couple, unfortunately. :(

The way I hear it the movie was written by Gore Vidal to be ROME-esque, as the scene above illustrates. But halfway through they decided to turn it into a porn flick :(

You can definitely see where this could have been a simple movie about a hedonistic, power-hungry maniac. Bob Guccione (the owner of Penthouse) snuck into the studios afterwards and filmed hardcore sex scenes, then masterfully spliced them into the film so it looks like they're supposed to be there.

There's a lot of nice little historical facts in here, but there are times when you think "Wow, Gore, you missed a chance for a dramatic scene". It likely would not have been memorable if it wasn't so visually disturbing.
