Dwarven justice.
« on: March 31, 2012, 10:34:51 am »

So I found my first vampire, caught the little err... "darling" sucking one of my carpenters dry, and he finished before I could save the poor dwarf. So I locked the vamp in his room and installed a chair so that he could eternally look after my fort, well the dwarves eventually found the body and when they did I convicted the vamp. My question is if I appoint a law-man, will he care about the locked door in his pursuit of great justice? Or will he kindly leave the prisoner alone as long as the door is locked?

On a totally unrelated note, my methods of vampire detection have recently improved.

Locked doors are respected by dwarfs including vampires and even dwarfs that went berserk. So as long as the door is marked as forbidden, the vampire will stay inside, no matter how blood thirsty he is and everybody else will stay outside. So you would need to unforbid the door if you want the vampire to be convicted but you might as well just leave him in there, he is not causing any danger to anyone anymore.

Do note that a proper tantrum or a misplaced troll can destroy the door, even if it's locked.

If you appoint a law-giver, said vamp will be convicted, but since noone can get to him, he will just chill in his little camber.

It is not enough for a vampire to be immured! Justice must be done.

Construct a means by which your Hammerer can be dropped into the vampire's chambers in order to dispense the appropriate punishment. A means by which the Hammerer can be retrieved afterwards is... optional.

I say keep him in there until his thirst drives him to slow work.  Then simply unlock the door and administer punishment.

Okay. Good I'm cool with having him sit working forever taking up no resources.

Just think of it as a life sentence of solitary confinement. :)

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.
