Dwarves not wearing uniforms?
« on: April 02, 2012, 08:17:52 pm »

I set them to wear a breastplate and mail shirts, but most of the time they don't wear one, and new dwarves put into the squad tend to get this more often. Help?

Dwarves have a habit of grabbing the best quality whatever that they can find. If they're not putting certain objects on, check if the objects are forbidden, or that they actually exist.

Make sure [r]eplace clothing is set in your uniform menu. Otherwise they'll have a hard time putting layers on and you'll get stuck with dwarves only half in uniform or lacking pieces.

When assigning uniforms where layering is important (mail shirts ALWAYS have to be worn under breastplates), first assign only mail shirts for the squad. Wait for them all to get mail shirts on, and then assign breastplates over the mail shirts.

I've seen some general sloppiness in uniform wearing for training sessions.
A station order sorted out the problems.

Also, dwarves that have either mining, woodcutting or hunting labour enabled cannot be equipped

This sort of micromanagement ought no longer be necessary.

indeed i have a macro to create an uniform with carefully planned layers (breastplate+2 mails+ cloak etc.), even with all defined at once they manage to get all up properly

No, it shouldn't be necessary, and supposedly Toady fixed some issues with clothing like this at least.  Apparently it still presents problems for armor though, which is a real shame.  :(

I haven't had problems with it in .07. If my dwarves are assigned armor that conflicts with their civilian clothes, they take off their civilian clothes and wear the armor. If they already have a breastplate and I make them a mail shirt, one way or another they get both on. No micromanagement necessary.

is it because I assign them to wear leather too? Can they wear leather under the breastplate along with mail shirts?

Leather Armor is a shaped armor, it conflicts with other items.  Remove that and it should work (better).

Leather clothes should be fine; works for me. A leather breastplate will never work. (It is shaped, and the breastplate is shaped, and a dwarf is only allowed one shaped piece per body part)
