Trading goods
« on: April 02, 2012, 09:52:40 pm »

So I have near infinite stone. I was thinking what if I could craft that stone into a trade good and sell it to a trader for something useful. Any suggestions on what sells nicely? I can produce more than one thing.

Set stone crafts on repeat, never look back.

Stone crafts are pretty much the staple.  There's little reason to do anything else.  Making pots might be worth doing off and on for other reasons (booze storage), but it's hard to beat the simplicity of stone crafts and the fact that they fit in bins.

Oh, yes. Set up three craftshops; one for crafts, one for pots, and one for misc. jobs.

I just had some human merchants arrive and take forever to unload. I keep checking and they said they are still unloading. Then they left before they even were ready to trade. What douchebags.

You can speed up loading/unloading times with a little semi-exploit.
1)Open up the designations menu and select "cancel designation"
2)Click and hold anywhere in the fortress with the mouse

Traders will unload and load during this meta-time, as well as meetings with diplomats will occur. Be warned that cats can and will adopt during this time as well though.
It works great when you trade the traders 4000+ stone goods not in bins and don't want to wait 3 seasons for them to pick them all up.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

It could also be that one of the traders had gotten lost and they were all still waiting for that person.
