Split cavern level
« on: April 01, 2012, 04:34:48 pm »

So I just found something odd, but not like the other cavern bugs that can happen. So on the first cavern level, there are technically 2 caverns. One half the cavern is in one range of z levels, the other half on another, and on the lowest z of the one half, the other half has it's uppermost z. The 2 halves of the caverns are completely separated, there is no connection between them, and some of the land in the uppermost cavern does not link up to the map edges, and it looks very specific to the map tile it's in (the generation didn't try to merge the 2 tiles so the transition is smooth).

I've seen odd stuff before, but not quite like this. Anyone have any ideas as to what happened? (Things similar to this can happen, but what's specifically odd about this is that the cavern is completely split in half.) Also, this did not happen in any other cavern layers.

Oh, yes, and curse me for using reveal, but I feel the need to because this world is crappy (shallow metals+flux is almost non existant), and the world generator keeps crashing before generating a new world (I'll deal with fixing that later), so I'm stuck with this one.

Twenty seconds after the collapse, 14 dwarves hit the ground simultaneously.
EDIT: make that 15. Not sure what took that last one so long.

I wish the X-series hadn't poisoned me against the word "Split" forever. It makes it hard to take things seriously.

Interesting series of caverns though. You could consider turning one half into a huge underground arena where you can pit prisoners against dangerous wildlife, whilst still having another half free for your dwarves to harvest silk, plants and wood.

To me it looks like your fortress is on some kind of a map border for the cave systems.
