What value in the raws effects the hatch time of eggs?

so im using masterwork and I have got a load of cave beetles and have modded them so as they can have children etc.. but its taken over a year for the eggs to hatch, so what value is it that effects the hatch time of eggs?

Should be creature size, I don't know if there are any other factors.  Did they hatch at all?  Maybe somehow they were disturbed on the nestbox and are just waiting to be eaten, though then I think they would rot, not being on a food stockpile.

In theory, the EGG_SIZE setting is supposed to control that, but I don't know that anybody has done any science on the matter.

yeah, I accidently gave king cobras the hatch time of chickens or something (5 size), but a peregrin falcon has egg size 40+ and is still brooding. Egg size definately matters.

I had elk birds lay eggs but then die from starvation  while sitting on them, will they hatch?

Probably not.  Eggs don't seem to hatch unless the mother sits on them for the entire gestation period.

If the mother is ever not on the eggs even for a second the eggs die. You need to mod grazer out of elk birds to breed them.

It is possible to breed elk birds without modding them, just tricky.  The time it takes an elk bird to starve is slightly longer than the gestation period.  You need to make sure the mother is well fed, then have her lay eggs and sit on them till they hatch, then force her into a pasture to get back to being fully fed before you breed her again.

ok thanks they did hatch eventually, however huge goblin siege happened beforehand and swarmed, i abandoned
