Some other things that might be handy for a quick-tallies list:

A toggle for value rather than count of items.  (Mostly for the trade stockpiles)
An option to filter the tally to only include items that are in certain burrows (How much booze is left in the deep mines, vs in the surface guard post?)
Rather than just items, liquids would be nice to include (How much water is left in the well?  What is the state of the drowning/magma trap?)

Sensible, but the liquids part sounds difficult. Unless maybe you could define burrow-like areas to detect liquids in.

See, that's why it's good to have a layman on the team for this kind of thing--you get too wrapped up in the minuidae to figure out the obvious solution.  :D

NW_Kohaku: You do make a good point. Maybe there could be a "Quickstocks" menu or something that gives you a number on wood logs/stones/meals/etc, whatever you select, possibly with customisable settings (i.e. metal, weapons, armor, and ammo for "Military;" stone, wood, metal, and so forth for "Raw Goods;" various furniture types for "Furniture;" etc)? Or is that more or less what you suggested, just worded differently?

Yes, that is more or less what I was saying...

Which again only implies that I desperately need an editor, because I thought that was a pretty clear and concise expression of the idea...  :-\

Rereading, I realise that it was fairly clear. I read that a bit before midnight; don't judge me too harshly.
