Surprise!
« on: March 30, 2012, 02:44:53 pm »

Lost a fort due to not realizing I embarked in an evil biome (I was just starting at the metal layers and pretty river) and of course I discover a nest of husks the first time a cloud hits my livestock. Fort dies shortly thereafter so I reclaim. Check the creatures list and I think "good, only living animals now, just have to hurry and finish my wall."

About the time the first tile of my wall is started I get 2 back to back Ambushed! messages. I was ambushed by the husks of my previous forts dwarves :/   Time for reclaim number 2!

might want to add this to the thread "what is happening at your fort?" instead of making many threads like this.

Sure, how do I move the thread? Or do I just lock and repost?

...He's only made one of these threads, as far as I can tell.

yup, true, just a precaution. No need to move the thread. Let us know how the reclaim goes.

Well that didn't last long. Spent all the embark points on 7 axedwarves/dodgers with leather shirts and copper battleaxes. They all died to a skeletal horse that my wagon spawned next too before even picking up equipment.

Seems my wagon spawn point is locked to being in a small bit of land between my 3 rivers. The 41 war bitches helped survive a few minutes but my carpenter would not stop being interrupted. In other news, the river and waterfall is lowing red with carp blood, the entire center of the embark is now coated with evil husk ash (apparently they leave a trail when they walk?) And there's about a dozen dwarf husks along with half a dozen skeletal war dogs. I think I might have to give up on this one.

I think that at some point it becomes beyond saving.  Unless you have counter-zombie systems in place, it just isn't possible to save the surface.  Same for a fort that doesn't have airlocks with zombie purification systems in them.

I've been working on my first megaproject in an evil biome and have had to savescum a dozen times now because things got out of hand.  If it wasn't for the project, i'd have abandoned instead of the savescum.  So don't feel bad!

You could try switching to adventure mode, build up a good, skilled axedwarf, and go in and chop the husks up. Either a beheading or a bisection will kill them, thus you want to use the axe. Then retire the adventurer and do another reclaim.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.
