Desiging a tribute to Armok... have some questions...
« on: March 29, 2012, 03:28:29 pm »

I am wanting do build a glorious temple to Armok in my current fortress. The centerpiece of which will be a blood-fall where i can sacrifice things in the name of the blood god.

To avoid dishonoring the great Armok i have a few questions about the design of my sacrificial chamber.

I plan to build a one tile chamber with a repeating spike trap. On either side of the chamber will be a fortification allowing depressurised water to flow through. Finally i will have a way to drop a sacrificial lamb fish dissector into the sacrificial chamber.

It will look somthing like this...

I have read that water is able to push creatures through fortifications... is this true? and if so what is the best alternitive to keep the creature in the chamber? bars? grate? KITTENS?

I also need a way to get creatures in the death chamber. For animals/gobbos/elves i believe a pit will work fine... however i dont belive that the blood of lesser creatures will be an adaquite tribute to Armok. What is a good method for getting dwarves into the chamber?

TY ;)

Water doesn't just push creatures through fortifications.  When submerged in water, fortifications become effectively open space.  A submerged creature will path through fortifications as if they weren't even there.

Wall grates, wall bars, and statues block pathing, but flowing water will still push creatures through them.  Even having two wall grates in a row doesn't stop creatures from traveling through.

A floor grate will stop any creature or object from passing through while letting water though.  It will also stop the passage of blood or other contamination, so you'll just have clean water falling out.

Also, I'm not sure that contamination like blood splatters even obeys gravity in this version, so your waterfall may not even carry the blood down to a lower level.

I dont plan to have the fortifications completely submerged 7/7. However according to the wiki water at 2-3/7 depth will push creatures thru...

rethinking the design with this in mind leads to a less compact version

My theory is that with a larger area the creature will be less likely to get pushed out of the chamber by the flowing water. this could also allow for a drawbridge dropping mechanism for getting dwarves into the chamber.
