Oh dwarf fortress, you and you meta-cosmic horror.
« on: March 28, 2012, 10:47:47 am »

I just found a rather amusing glitch while starting a new adventure mode game.

Apparently, there exists, somewhere in my newly genned world, a civilization that causes my game to crash, since every time I scroll down to the bottom page, the game crashes.

Now, it's probably due to the name being invalid, but I like to think it's a bit like Hastu-(Archereon cancels invoke eldritch name: Not that bloody stupid)

Anyone ever have a similar experience?

I want to tell you they were bad men, cephalo.  I want to tell you that with a better overseer the Fortress never would've gotten so bad someone would get offed in a pointless fisticuffs.
But the sad truth charlie?
It was inevitable.

This reminds me of that bug in a previous version of DF that caused older-version save files to slowly corrupt and die when you upgraded to the next version.

But I've yet to encounter doom-bugs in the game as of yet.

Wow. Shit just got creepy.

I can't find the file for this world ANYWHERE in my DF fortress  :o .

It would be in saves right?

^^ Btw, this was genned in 0.34.06, so no resurgence of that bug.

Children!

Do I have to read from the necronomicon, or can you stop summoning the great old ones before dinner on your own?!

I had a fortress named Basementtortured once.  I was too irrationally afraid of the lower z-levels of the map to get past year 1.  Dwarf Fortress: running the gamut between light-hearted whimsy and abject terror in the time it takes to say "Fluffy Wambler."

I put together a two-person marksdwarf squad and sent them to stand *near* the river, without crossing it, hoping they'd shoot down at the goblins. Didn't work; one marksdwarf went to the side of the river, spotted the two goblins still alive, and jumped right in, whereupon he was killed by the dingos. Goblins eventually died, too, but the dingos are still hanging out. They've been down there about two years.
