Dwarfs with social skills cool down tantrum spirals
« on: March 30, 2012, 04:52:44 am »

A dwarf with good social skills is close to a dwarf throwing a tantrum.
He causes the raging dwarf to cool down and keeps the surrounding dwarfs from unhappy thoughts.
Also, if the social-skill dwarf is happy, he infects surrounding dwarfs with good thoughts.

I agree; however this should also depend on the personalities of the respective dorfs: If one tries to calm down another one who simply can't stand his attitude, they should get even more enraged (aka "Leave me alone, damnit!")

I'm going to do the smart thing here and disengage. This isn't a hill I paticularly care to die on.

Don't they already do that. I know mayors and expedition leaders will try to counsel angry/ depressed dwarves. Having a high social skill mayor can stop a tnatrum spiral right in it's tracks. (However since most tantrums start with the dwarf with most friends(ie the mayor) getting killed, this isn't always usefull)

Yes, an angry dwarf will attend a meeting with the expedition leader/mayor.
Afterwards the dwarf will think:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sometimes the game amazes with its detail :D

That said, the way I interpret the suggestion, there would not need to be a meeting between the dwarves, they would only need to be close to the angry dwarf for him/her to cool down.

This suggestion makes sense. I feel that sometimes conducting a long meeting just to yell at somebody in charge is a little too organized and takes too long. Yes, sometimes you would have a meeting with a leader, but not after every passing acquaintances death. You should be able to speak to a friend or family member instead.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

Come to think of it, it'd also be nice if a noble got a happy thought for making a fellow citizen feel better.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

That should be a bad thought, have you seen what sick jokes nobles play?
