Yes, I was just giving a quick rationality check rather than going into the specific reasons...

The reason that the Habsburg line fell so far was because the king's bloodline would be continued, no matter what.  They "kept it all in the family" in order to hoard their political power until the whole family collapsed.

In most human(oid) relations, however, a man whose jaw was so deformed that he couldn't even chew on his own would not have exactly been attracting many of the ladies.

Inbreeding causes problems when you ensure breeding occurs regardless of how deformed they are already getting - selecting out the deformed ones by itself selects out those crippling traits.

In fact, historically, insanity or birth defects were often seen as signs of demonic possession, and the whole family would be ostracized and fall into ruin, which would, in modern times, be seen as brutal and unfair, but evolutionarily, would at least have the effect of cutting off whole potentially problematic chunks of the genetic pool.

Personally, I like [DF] because after climbing the damned learning cliff, I'm too elitist to consider not liking it.

Seeing as I could not be bothered to read all replies because I have a very very low attention span I have decided that because this was in DF that no logical explanations or reasons are allowed. Hooray for Dwarf Fortress logic!  :)

The power of an Eskimo isn't really something you should just forget about, they can cut a hole in your ice and catch a fish in minutes.
