Two Dwarves stuck in cages
« on: March 25, 2012, 01:57:56 am »

Two dwarves were wounded and then fell into cages.  It's not allowing me to create building cages with the cages where they're trapped... their cages just not available as a building.  I can move the cages, but I can't get the dwarves out. I have lots of idle dwarves and the cages set for dump... yet nothing happens.

How can I get them out of the cages?

Here is what I did:
You can build a cage (b-j-enter-x) then construct a lever next to it and link it to the cages.
Then just pull the lever and your dwarfs are free although they are probably starving by then.

I don't think dumping the cage works.

The problem is when I use (b-j-enter-x) it's not showing his cage.

Update:  After moving it back and forth then back and forth between the dump,  I was finally able to build the cage where I could then remove him from being assigned to the cage.  It shouldn't be so difficult to empty cages!  Ughh.

You can get animals and hostiles out of cages by assigned them to a pasture, but I guess that doesn't work for dorfs. It is much easier than building and using a lever. When releasing hostiles they may or may not start attacking/ running away. Some goblins seem to be happy to become farm animals.

They were probably getting stockpiled when you tried building the cages ^-^

A lever?  :o Why? Just construct the cages. Then [Q]uery them and deselect the Dwarf in it. No need to faff about with levers.
