Barrack Settings !!Science!!

Does Squad Equipment and Individual Equipment work now? They used to create enormous amount of hassle before, partly centered around rotten food.

They've always worked, it just didn't work.  I know for certain that "squad equipment" refers to armor and weapons.  If the squad is set to "civilian clothes while off-duty" then they'll drop their armor in the barracks and wander off.  Now, they'll actually put on their clothes again once they drop their armor.

I've never tested individual equipment, that may refer to their clothing, I'm not sure.

Ambushes may become entirely more deadly.  With dwarves gaining bad thoughts from wearing just armor, they'll need some down-time to wear clothes and recover their mood.  If this progresses as I foresee it, an ambush may reliably catch your whole fortress off-guard and suffer the wait while they go suit up.

It's interesting how a simple change to how dwarves are clothed instantly makes ambushes, well, ambushy.

What I'm going to do is split up my dwarves into littler squads and have them scheduled oppositely. 9 months on, 3 off, say. Marksdwarves get rotating shifts, 6 on, 6 off(hunting). That should work.

CONSTANT VIGILANCE.

Can't they wear their armor over their trousers and tunics?

I've set my soldiers to report to positions on the last month of the season, as this is when ambushes most often arrive.
