I think it's been decided that the way to "win" DF is to have someone legitimately die of old age.
I had thought that defeating/disgracing the HFS and colonizing hell was the win condition?

Oh, no, both y'all so wrong.

The only way to win DF is to defeat the

Every fortress dies by it's wicked gluttonous sloth, eventually.  Once it consumes 2GB, you have no hope.  Beware it's undulating single-processor excretions

Unfortunately, Toady makes the F** M****** stronger with every version.
We mortals, in our hopelessness, find solace with each another only.

Two outta three's not so bad then Zilpin.

I've never seen a dwarf die of old age.  Couple of animals, but never a dwarf.  Driving the dwarf civ to extinction and utterly working the fort population to death might've had something to do with that though.

I yearn to see the day where somebody makes a fort where a child is born in the fort and stays alive in it long enough to die of old age.

Didn't that happen in Flarechannel? That fort was around for 212 or so years in game time after all.

It's surprising that this is even a question.

I've had several fortresses live past 200 game years.
And, yes, dwarfs die of old age.

Eventually, you set you orders and designations, then go to bed (1 FPS runs all night), then save in the morning.
If you've never done that, then you do not deserve to be on these forums.  You Sissy Elfs.

Damn, and here I thought it was desperately removing auto pause from life saving announcements so your game would continue to run no mater how badly neglected.  I have some work to do it seems.

I had one of the original 2 dogs die 5 years into my fortress from old age. Some of my dwarves are pushing it in terms of age though.

I don't think anyone can argue to be deserving of anything here - we all cling to it with a cold, undeserved vengeance and call it our own, the way mother nature intended.

Lol, I just had my first turkey die of old age yesterday. It was like a slap in the face, "Wait, things can age to death in this game???"

Ya.... :p

Bah. My laptop would overheat and shut down long before that and a fun part I like about playing games is the playing of them. Letting them play themselves isn't half as amusing. :P
