Oh god, food > food stockpile, please Urist.
« on: March 24, 2012, 06:49:52 pm »

I've played Dwarf Fortress for long enough to realize that this is not normal. My food stockpiles are NOT being used. I have more than 150 squares of stockpile, and yet the only thing getting put in each of them is one empty barrel.

Let me give you the lowdown. I embarked right next to a volcano, but the rest of the biome is all farm-friendly stuff. Soil for growing plump helmets, right, sounds good. Set that shit right up, sweet, got a plump helmet farm. Okay, they're growing plump helmets. Then the plump helmets are fully grown and nobody is picking them and putting them in barrels or pots. They just leave it on the farm and eat it there, which is TERRIBLE, because 99% of the time it goes rotten.

it's not just plants. The still has about 400 seeds just sitting there. No bags, no nothing. Then we go ver to the butchery and everything is just sitting there. I've crafted hundreds of pots and leather bags: anything brewed gets left at the still, anything butchered gets left where it was butchered. Furniture and bars etc, stockpiles are all working, it's just the whole food stockpile industry is just dead. Everyone is having a tantrum spiral, and everything ends up in the refuse pile unless it gets eaten on the spot.

This is easily the most frustrating thing to ever happen to me in Dwarf Fortress.

Check your Orders menu.  You probably toggled the option to have dwarves gather food.

Yeah, I had the same thing once. d - o - f if I'm not mistaken. I wanted to press d - o - F at the time to unforbid fired bolts instead forbade food gathering.

Yeah, I was having a conversation over steam and playing Dwarf Fortress at the same time yesterday, that led to a lot of accidental keypresses.

0 idlers it is then. It sucks because I had rope reeds and they went rotten. I like rope reeds ;_;
