Religion Megathread
« on: March 25, 2012, 08:13:48 pm »

The main purpose of this thread is act more or less like an index over the numerous but similar religion/gods/priests threads that have occurred.  Hopefully consolidating and categorizing these threads will lead to some continuity that can be more easily followed and looked up.

Edit:
Due to multiple intertwining topics some entries will appear in multiple locations.  Restructuring and reorganization will occur sporadically;  mostly when I have time to update so if there is any problems they'll likely be addressed in time.

Edit: Updated the list with a few new entries.

Personally, I like it because after climbing the damned learning cliff, I'm too elitist to consider not liking it.
If murdering parents in front of their kids in the most gruesome manner possible is too much for you, you have not played Dwarf Fortress
You should be drowning babies by now, human.

Heh, normally, you try to populate it with something before making the first post. :P

Oh well, time to start feeding in the data...

Remember, you'll need to read and add some meat to these to put together a serious narrative on them.

Fortress Religion:
Theocratic control over fortresses
Old religion megathread
Priests being in fortress mode with altars
Including different types of pantheons into the game
Divine magic for believers
Religions can be created or die off as people worship new things or forget old ways.
Procedural holidays
Inquisitors/vampire hunters
books for bibles
more fortress temples
Syncretism - the adoption of nearby civilization's theological beliefs, and cultural melding, among other things

Aspects of Gods:
Godly Appearances (having descriptions of gods based upon their personalities and powers)
Physical Gods (again) - that Gods are physical beings, like in Greek Myth, and can manually lay down a whuppin' and maybe even get one in return.
Challenge/become a god

Sphere-as-it-relates-to-Biome Ideas:
Good regions having "painfully good" effects
Organizing Spheres - brainstorming ideas for different kinds of sphere-based biomes
Xenosynthesis - magic plants based upon sphere influence in different biomes that increase or decrease magical properties of creatures in area

Sphere-as-it-relates-to-In-Game-Functions Ideas:
Apply spheres to all items
Procedural material properties transfers in reactions to create "alchemy".

Will add more, this should help start you out.

EDIT:
Fortress Religions:
Philsophies instead of religions
religious food requirements
Fire burials and more priests
Adventurers start their own cults

Aspects of Gods:
Awakening elder ones as Forgotten Beasts that corrupt your lawn with non-euclidianness and get it really slimy, too
Hidden Gods that can be discovered that are not worshipped, but exist

That's all the stuff I got from searching "religion"... the rest looked increasingly off-topic, so I aborted around page 5 of 11.
