What part of the magma force is impassable?
« on: March 23, 2012, 12:29:55 am »

The wiki advised building a magma forge so that the impassable part of the forge was the part over the magma. What part of the forge is this?

Also, I'm planning on using a pump system to take lava out of a volcano and bring it to my fortress. Does anyone have any hints/tips for me on doing so (Like warnings and stuff)? I've never worked with lava before.
Thanks

One of the spaces that is covered by graphic as far as I know. For forges I do the bottom middle which is the anvil, and all smelters the top middle is the "turned on" tile to see if it can melt stuff so I use that one.

The Xs are the impassable parts. In-game, when you try to build one, they're marked by the dark green Xs.

As for lava, I am sadly inexperienced with it. I can't handle the heat.

forges have their impassible tiles on the center left and center right.  all other magma fueled workshops it is the top center.  What I always do is make a solid tube from the pump to the floor before the forges.  before the area below I place a magma safe door so I can seal it off and never worry about them depowering.  Also, I put a ramp down and a magma safe hatch in case I ever want to get magma lower.  Both the hatch and door are linked to a lever via magma safe mechanisms.

ninjas beat me to it, however i can still point out that the wiki shows the impassable tiles as dark green X's, which the other ninjas missed.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.
