For the Love of Armok, Why won't you recover wounded???
« on: March 18, 2012, 10:21:59 pm »

One of my original Seven fell in a mining accidentally and broke his foot.
He is currently laying on the ground just outside my foot entrance... He has been laying there for almost a WEEK.
Half my fort is idling right now twiddling it's thumbs while he sits outside fending off badgers with his mining pick...

WHY DO YOU VEX ME MEDICAL DWARVES!!

I'd take a wild stab at guessing that he removed a ramp / staircase, and nobody can reach him where he's laying now. You might want to rectify that situation, if you value him.

recovering the injured can be a litte buggy.

check the following, if none of the above helps, dunno...

1. do you have a hospital, a chief medical dwarf with diagnosis enabled and idlers to carry him places?

2. is the injured soldier "resting" or is he "no job". if no job, its the bug and the only thing you can do is reinjure him (say by causing a cave-in near enough to knock him away with the force, but not on top of him (not fatal)

3. his injuries? does he need diagnosis? surgery? assign the jobs to idlers

<sighs> It's the bug then
3/4 of my fort are idling, and every single one of them has "no job" right now.
Seriously, how does this even happen in the first place?

I don't know if it helps.
I had a dwarf cut by kobold thief in the leg so he was immobilized and just lay on the grass doing nothing.
I built a hospital quickly (using zone command), hoping someone would carry him in, but nothing happened.

So I designed another hospital zone over him. This time, some dwarf began to give him water.

I don't recall exactly what happened next, maybe I removed the second hospital zone or maybe not. The last time I took a look at him, he had already been inside the first hospital.

Hmmm it actually worked
AWESOME!

He is now in a bed and receiving food and water.

The Doctors have not yet examined him (grrrr) but at least he shall not starve to death.

Congratulations, you have come up with a way around this bug,!

From my experience of this bug, the injured dwarves will eventually be recovered. It just takes a while. I have had dwarves injured and then never get treated, yes, but they got back up on their feet (or foot, in one case. who needs a crutch anyway?!). Every time i've had an injured dwarf bug out with the 'no job' instead of 'rest', they have wound up in the hospital eventually.

Or the graveyard. Either way.

He had a ton of broken bones, but all none life threaten... Hmmmm Need to give more work to Doctors... but don;t want to kill people..

I once tried to separate doctor's jobs and nurses jobs.
I had ~10 nurces (recover wounded job enabled)and some doctors (only actual doctoring stuff enabled (diagnosis, suturing, surgery...) and no recover wounded).
as a result noone was recovering my poor wounded guys.

When I enabled recover wounded job for everyone -  only CMD went to save some lives(there were only couple of them).

I have also seen people reporting that other dwarves also recover wounded, but in my test only CMD was doing this. maybe a bug.
