Soap Production Grinds to a halt.
« on: March 17, 2012, 03:25:38 pm »

Ok so here whats going on...

As we know, you need a BARREL full of Lye to make soap...
Right now I have about 50 BUCKETS full of lye that are useless, because there seems to be a bit of water in each bucket...
The soap makers won't take the lye from the buckets to make soap...

How do I fix this?

Is there a way to pour Lye from buckets into barrels?

PS I know the trick about forbiding water and taking it to the trade depot.. I am just curious if there is a way to use the lye in the bucket afterwards

First, get the dwarves to remove the water from the buckets by forbidding only the water and then telling them to bring the buckets to the trading depot.

Then, make a stockpile near your soap maker's workshop that only accepts lye.  Make sure you have empty barrels.  Wait.  Your dwarves should transfer the lye in the buckets into barrels in the stockpile.

I havent had any problems with this in the new version 34.05 Dwarfs will dump water out of buckets before making lye now.

Easy way to make soap is in the job manager.
j-m
press q for new task, type ash, scroll down to make ash, quantity 30
press q again, type lye, scroll down to make lye, quantity 30
press q again and type soap, scroll down and select make soap from tallow, quantity 30

You will end up with 30 soap and no residual lye or ash, don't even need to setup stockpiles for the intermediate products. Just make sure you have a dwarf with woodburning, lye making and soap making labors and he can be your dedicated soap maker.

This bug should be fixed in the latest version.  Plus, there's an unofficial patch for 31.25 to fix the bug as well.
