Is it possible to permanently kill a goblin mount type?

So the first 2 sieges I had the goblins brought tons of cave crocodiles.
(Enough to have  crocodile soap for years and around 150 cave crocodile crossbows in my traps + cave crocodile bone bolts to load them with)
So did I kill off all their crocs or can I expect more?

Catch them, tame them, breed them.

The adults may be false tames, but the children should not have this problem.

a dangerous approach, but if it works, well let's just say a PAIR of cave crocs produces more than what you killed

I don't think you can tame an invader's mount.

Just start racking up kills on your squads and expect to use up a lot of bone bolts.  Get marksdwarves if you don't already, ammo isn't an issue anymore!

Mounts are tied historically to the goblin leader who tamed them. When this leader dies or ceases to be leader, the cave crocs will no longer come. Until then, the number of such mounts who can come is infinite.

Unfortunately, there is a bug where if the goblin leader attacks your fort personally, whether or not he dies he will cease to exist be a leader the moment he leaves the map. Therefore, no matter what you do, eventually the goblins will no longer bring cave crocs.

Actually, are we certain of this anymore?  Historical figures have taken a rewriting, and I now believe that those who leave the map don't disappear anymore.

The problem wasn't that they ceased to exist - the problem was that they lost their position once they left the map.

For the past 2 years they haven't been riding in cave crocs, and I did kill one of their axe lords the last time they brought some.

Mabye if cave crocs go extict for some reason or another on your world, the goblins will appear with different/no mounts? !!SCIENCE!! is needed.
