I tried using an old thread, and the owner locked it. His thread so whatever but now I got to make this new one since my question wasnt answered yet before he locked it down.

didnt want to start a new thread...

I just got the series from IndieRoyale. Should I play through from the first game? I am the type that might lose interest and I want to get to the goodness, good UI, good story, good gameplay in general.

Can I skip ahead or is starting from the first worth it?

can i get some input?

For the most part, you can play any of the games without playing their prequels. The storyline occasionally does reference the previous titles' story at times, but most are explained for those who haven't played them. The games all start with a tutorial, and the game mechanics are more or less the same. As I see it you can play them in any order.

The game plays a bit like those old Infinity Engine games, but all combat is turn-based. If that's your forte then it's all good. The only big drawback I find is that every turn, ALL active NPCs on the map take a turn each round, and if there are 50+ of them...

The UI is... acceptable. You *might* occasionally mis-click in combat once or twice.

Save often, the balance of the earlier titles are a bit... odd.

Oh, and whenever your create a creature, ALWAYS put two points in Intelligence; it allows you to control your creature manually. The AI of the game is... minimal.

I'd recommend starting with Geneforge 1 as the game engine changes over the course of the series and if you start with the latest Geneforge, it might be hard to get into the older ones.

They're all great games, but my god. You'll have to spend like over 100 hours to complete the series. Which can be a good thing, but I expect you'll start to get Geneforge fatigue rather quickly. :P

Got it in the bundle.

Started with Geneforge 5

Trying to be pro-shaper, but the game just keeps, violently - trying to pull me to rebells "The shapers are really bad bro, seriously, bro" "But I already commited genocide in there name, I can't change who i work for now or it'd die of guilt!"

Overall suprisingly fun, even thou i'm struggling a bit (thinking i could run battlemagic [every spell thats not aoe misses] + melee creatures) - until i went to the labatory and got some canisters there, especially for the rank 5 creatures. Now doing okay with the gazers and war trolls just ripping everything apart while I tank [enemys always focus me if I'm visible].

Liked it, crafting could be better and at one point i had to cheat to leave a area i couldn't otherwise leave.

Factions in any Geneforge storyline are essentially gray and gray morality in a nutshell.

Your character deselecting himself occasionally, requiring you to click on the character model, etc. etc. etc.

You can actually use number keys to select your character and creations.  0 selects everyone.
