Fluid mechanics will still work if they're primed at the time the adventurer comes.  If you have a fluid repeater in place already, it'll be dry.  If you have a fluid repeater by the river and your adventurer opens the floodgate, then it will fill normally and run normally.  Everything must be re-primed.  So if you're utilizing any bucket pond zones to prime a repeater, then you'll need a new solution.
