I've noticed my dwarfs stand on the wrong side, if possible, whenever building something. Putting floodgates in? They'll get themselves stuck. Mining to make a hole to a chamber below? They'll stand on the square they channel, 90% of the time. One even managed to cause a cave-in when engraving a wall...

They have preferred sides where they will stand when building constructions. After some facepalm moments you get used to that and can use it to your advantage.

Whilst building up my armoury and crafting iron leggings for future soldiers, one of my marksdwarves decided to rip off his own iron leggings and run off to fetch a new pair.

The image of it just cracks me up - "Oh boy oh boy! New PANTS!!! [/peter griffin panting running noise]

Then again, this might have been the same dwarf that decided to bite a giant magpie rather than bash it with his crossbow.

Although it was in adventure mode, one of my dwarf companions once bit an elf's tongue and shook him around by it instead of using his iron axe.

A miner and a hammerdwarf, both unarmoured holding off a siege of over 40 goblins (including ranged weapons) single handedly for 4 days. The full military mobilized and killed them all, and immediately after that the two rested in opposite beds, woke up and began to eat at the same table. I'd imagine them conversing over some delicious roast about that one time, in Dwarf camp...

So, my first vampire for this fort, and I decide that, rather than figure out something SAFE to do with him, I decide, give him an Axe, a Shield, and send him into the Caverns to clean them out.... didn't expect him to live.. especially since it was but a humble Training Axe.... but uh, he succeeded, and now He's guarding my masons as I do some !!Expirements!!.

The odd part? Well, when I had him assigned to 'station' or 'Kill Various' about 6 or seven times he ran back up for a different Axe or shield.... leaving me to 'What the fuu....' and kiiiinda panic, hoping that he wasn't goign to grab a mid slaughter Snack... (Speaking of which, Vamps totally need an In Battle bite Special)

I did pretty much the same with my resident vampire, except it was during a siege and I panicked slightly and I wanted to get the burrows sorted correctly. The net result - our vampire is now trapped in the cavern with no weaponry and just the clothes she had on her back.

She's already demolished a pack of cave swallows. I'm looking forward to more science with her at a later stage
