I recall the "war bugbat" experiment in df2010.

It had.....eyebrow raising......results.

Vermin and pet are not mutually exclusive.  I don't think lungfish has the appropriate pet tags though.  Personally, id be more frightened of flying hagfish.. especially in the rain.... but this is DF, where vegetarian carp and sessile sponges are horribly deadly.
